SUMMER 2017!

This summer brings a new and exciting endeavour to Berry Entertaining - a duo!!  I've been looking for just the right person to partner up with to create a singing duo and I've finally found her!  Martha has been one of my favourite carollers in my company (Season's Singers) for the past three years and now we've put together a fantastic repertoire of songs.  Our repertoire is a variety of songs from the 1950s to 2017!  We'll be singing without accompaniment and/or with the ukulele and all in harmony.

"Harmony Honeys" have already performed at Science World, at Queen Elizabeth Park and at Art in Bloom and The Mad Hatter's Tea as part of the New Westminster Culture Crawl.  Stay tuned for future performance dates!

Check out the Berry Entertaining Youtube channel for some clips of our performances.  (And a picture in the Gallery!)

AN EVENING OF BERRY PICKING!  A ukulele concert and fundraiser on Tuesday, August 9, 2016

My first ukulele concert was a huge success!  Lots of positive feedback about the music, the stories and the atmosphere - all of which made it a really fun evening!  And it was another sold-out show which is very exciting!!

The evening's program included a couple Beatles tunes, a few Patsy Cline classics, a little Dixie Chicks as well as some lesser-known comedic songs and a few original tunes.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the musical selections and, as a performer, it's always fun to be able to make people laugh - which I did!

Another great thing about getting a sold-out audience is that I'm donating a portion of all ticket sales to the Red Cross to help the people of Fort McMurray.

All in all, a great night!

Another fantastic season of singing and dancing came to a close on June 13, 2016 with our year-end recital.  It was a great evening of music and dance.  The Broadway Choir, a co-ed community choir, and The C Notes, an all-female ensemble were joined by the B Notes, an all-male ensemble, performing for the first time.  The audience was entertained with such songs as 'Hello Dolly', 'Tears In Heaven', 'Up On The Roof', 'Brotherhood of Man', 'My Guy', 'Count On Me' and 'Cecilia', to name a few.

I was lucky to have a fun group of women in my tap class this term and delighted they wanted to participate in our recital.  So a small but enthusiastic group of tappers performed a dance to Anna Kendrick's 'When I'm Gone', the Cups song.

To close the show, the Broadway Choir and the C Notes performed a 7-minute medley of doo-wop songs called "Forever Doo Wop" which was met by a resounding chorus of applause!

Audience Quotes

GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS II (September 2015)

Wooooo Hoooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Entertaining and skillful are 2 words which describe your show Sunday eve . . .  I really think your voice is a Broadway stage soprano----strong, melodious, and perfect for your repertoire which reflected your hard work and a kind heart for the performance and benefit.  You are hilarious and so likable on stage (and off!)

I had a great time and really enjoyed the show. Let me know about the next one.  Cheers!

I was really impressed. You chose some of my favourite songs.  All your hard work has paid off.  Congratulations on your performance! I would definitely attend again if you do go ahead with it.

I am just sooooo proud of you for what you accomplished tonight!!   You looked so beautiful, and were so poised and natural on stage, that it was a joy to watch you.  And your voice is absolutely amazing - so clear and rich and lovely!  I loved all of your stories about each song as well - they were a wonderful touch to your program.  I hope you are very, very proud of yourself - and that you enjoyed performing for everyone!  Hope you sleep well knowing that you were an absolute star tonight!  Can't wait for "Girls Will Be Girls - III".

I loved the show. It was my first time at a show like that and it was like a more fun version of a Lieder performance.

Thank you for a great evening.  We always enjoy listening to you perform.

You have a beautiful voice.  It was really fun and I learned something new about the musicals.

GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS (September 2013)

Wonderful evening last night. You put together a very entertaining song selection with very talented friends. Congratulations!!! Thanks so much again for a lovely evening.

I keep forgetting to email you about how much I enjoyed the show the other night. I had a really great time and I think you should be really proud of that production and the obvious positive reaction from the audience. . . . Thanks again for such an enjoyable evening. Now it's time to start planning your follow-up performance.

Your pipes are SO impressive! There is a richness, fullness and wonderfully expressive character (not to mention control) to your voice that I find entirely captivating.

I am glad I braved the rain that night. I enjoyed your show...great singing and wonderful set of songs.

That was a lot of fun and boy, you all have such strong voices!

It was really wonderful and I'm glad I was able to come!

Singing Student Quotes

I want to thank-you so much for all your help as you are a fabulous singing teacher and I loved your passion for music and life in general.

I really enjoyed your classes, and learned a lot.

Thanks for yet another great year of singing and a wonderful garden party Allison!

Thank you Alison. Great time as always - in choir -at performances -at parties.

Thanks Allison. I leaned a lot in the past year, and I look forward to September.

We were talking in the parking lot about how much we enjoy your class and that we’re learning more in your class than in the choirs we’ve been in.  So…thanks for working with us!

That was quite a breakthrough! I don’t know why the singing in smaller groups helped but it sure did for me  . . . Strange that it’s so hard to let the self-consciousness go, but if you can, you can hear yourself and make the changes needed to sound better.  Worked like that for me, anyway.  When I got home my husband and friends were jamming with guitars and I actually had the nerve to sing with them!

Allison, you're awesome.  Really, Allison, I am so impressed by how brave and talented and energetic you are, putting on these recitals, and performing yourself, and recovering so gracefully from our Oklahoma flub. (I think it made us all feel a bit more relaxed and confident!)

I've been meaning to tell you for a while how much I appreciate you and the choir- I am learning so much as well as having a good adult-fun break from my long, kid-filled days.

I will miss my private singing lessons with you as I love singing and you are an excellent  teacher and I also enjoyed the chats we had before the class.
